COMMISSION CASE STUDY

Rockpool Pelican Waters

When residents couldn’t get to the beach, we reimagined the coastal experience and bought the beach to them in an impactful way!

As one of Rockpool Residential Aged Care group’s coastal facility sites, we took inspiration from the immediate Sunshine Coast area to curate an art collection of five figurative paintings of renowned beaches in South East Queensland. These paintings were also digitised and made into luxurious linen wallpapers and glass splash-backs for each of the building’s levels representing Rockpool Pelican Waters’ five communities.

This art collection for Rockpool Pelican Waters was the first commission that we agreed to include people in each composition. This approach meant there was a more human connection to the environment rather than just portraying stunning landscapes of the region like in the paintings at the Morayfield and Carseldine sites.

The response from residents, staff and visitors has been very positive, in fact, the beachscape pieces have triggered beautiful memories of cherished times for each of them. This connection to the paintings has sparked conversations of how each artwork makes them feel and has enabled the opportunity to share their own stories with each other.

It really is amazing how art can tap into our inner emotions and be more than just an aesthetic element to a space.
